Darkie - our favourite show at the Cape Town Fashion Week

Sunglasses. All the eye make-up you need, day or night.

An eager crowd clad with sunglasses, teased by the soulful sounds of one of Darkie’s inspirations, Ray Charles, was given the privilege of viewing the Spring/Summer ‘08/’09 collection at Virgin Mobile’s Cape Town Fashion Week on Friday 15th August 2008....

“There's where the cotton and the corn and taters grow, There's where the birds warble sweet in the spring time, There's where this old Darkie’s heart am long to go.” Ray Charles

Upbeat, funky, bright, solid colours, bold patterns, playful zips and witty text prints– an all-round soulful and wearable collection of denims, t-shirts, women’s shirts, dresses and jackets – all branded with the afro comb logo appealing to a youthful, stylish audience. Inspired by 11 different cultures and the power of incorporating recycled clothing, Darkie’s distinctive creative designs ignite the passion in our hearts for this incredible place we call home.

With both men and woman’s wear stirred by the same palette, accompanied by chunky jewellery and vintage accessories; the clothes were made to fit and fit to make you feel the sexy soul of innovative local design. Personal favourite items were the girl’s bright blue skinny jeans, mini dress with pockets and coat with leather belt. Blue is definitely the stimulant in this spring/summer’s bright colour addiction. More favourite items spotted included the sexy sleeveless low cut zip top and black hooded dress with bold pink print text. For the guys we really liked the light turquoise skinny baggies with oversized pockets, vintage bag and the teal zip shirt with button detail. But it was an all round uplifting show with bright colours, bold cuts and mischievous detail of each item infusing a bright new wave of energy into the audience who responded well to the collection and were left feeling proud to be South African.

Daily Dressers LOVE Fashion week. This year we are in full support of one of our Favourite Friends and Designers new Range -

Pink Ant Spring/Summer 2008!

We love their Unique Style fueling imagination and Fine Art infusion transforming each garment into a living object with a voice shouting out own personal style. The style caters for females age 18 - 28 and has been previewed in several South African Magazines including Elle, One Small Seed, Pursuit, Seventeen, House & Leisure and Glamour. Pink Ant is Based in our favourite Hometown Cape Town, South Africa, but can be purchased from the following stores, including two of DailyDressers secret spots ;)

The Space, Rosebank Mall, Johannesburg......................(011)327 3640
The Space, World Wear, Johannesburg.........................(011)431 4253
MeMeMe, Long Street, Cape Town...............................(021)424 0001

Pink Ant Culture

Schnitzy (clawed little boy) and Midear (faceless girl with reindeer horns) are Pink AntÕs core creatures and appear on most Pink Ant products. This is exactly why we support Pink Ant as they managed to combine art, clothing and cute Japanese animation. The Cult of Cute is a trend in art originating in Japan, whereby "cute" creatures are edgy and learn to be more cool than cute. Pink Ant uses clothing material as another platform (instead of art) to preview these "cute" creatures.

Please visit Pink Ant's website for more information and a glimpse into their unique style!

Also Book your tickets NOW for Johannesburg Fashion Week at Montecasino and maybe DailyDressers will spot your own personal Style as our next Favourite!

Surrender

I just absolutely love this look. I still remember when i bought my first white dress in Spain at Zara in 2003. I still wear it. The brown belt around the waist makes it less poppie, and the buttons in the front adds an antique touch of detail without being lacy. Lose wind blown hair and barefoot make this style look even better. Or an oversized hand bag with flat leather sandals for that Sunday Travel look.

Everyone needs at least one white dress. And then wear it while surrendering to the outside world so as to get lost in the purity of pure bliss wrapped around your soul.

I am definitely having a white dress day.

Rainbow Rocking

This weekend our favourite outfit was not exactly spotted in Cape Town, but with so many bright colours in all the window shops from the top of Kloofstreet all the way to the Waterfront, I thought it would not be breaking too many rules revealing something bright!

This little rainbow dress is definitely not for everyone, I would think tall, skinny, brave and brunette are primary prerequisites for pulling off this bright style! But nevertheless, it is a fun, free and strangely refreshing look that will definitely guarantee a space in the spotlight at any party. Think high heels and clutch bag for commercial clubbing, brown leather riding boots and plain coloured silk scarf for a sunset bar, and cheap pumps with bright coloured ankle warmers for earth dance;)

But where to find these items that will infuse your personal style and wardrobe with some fresh bright new affordable items? Watch this space for all our secret style spots hosting affordable items hidden behind glass windows of local fashion!
